Connecting and amplifying community-led solutions
We support local voices to drive systemic reform and tackle persistent disadvantage.

Our pillars
PLACE supports place-based work through four key pillars
We exist because top-down, one-size-fits-all approaches have consistently failed to meet the needs of diverse communities. Despite decades of effort, persistent disadvantage remains entrenched in many parts of Australia.
Yet across the country, there are communities using place-based approaches built on genuine partnership and local ownership. What’s missing is the infrastructure to connect and elevate this work – practical tools and resources that address structural barriers and build momentum for place-based initiatives.
Why PLACE
PLACE will help forge a ‘new normal’ – one where systems are built to support, not stifle, community leadership in tackling complex and persistent disadvantage.
Ultimately, our work is grounded in a belief that those closest to the challenges must be central to the solutions. We will help achieve that by creating and sustaining the conditions for place-based initiatives to thrive.
Making Place Matter
What happens when the people closest to a problem help create the solution? Making Place Matter is PLACE’s new podcast, and our first season asks the question: Who Decides?
It’s all about shared decision-making – a foundation of place-based work. You’ll hear what that process really looks like, what gets in the way, and what becomes possible when communities are genuinely at the table.
