A national network for young people working on place-based change in their communities.

What is it?
It’s a network built around relationships, learning and collective influence.
This is a space to:

Why is this network being set up?
Young people are already doing important work in their communities, but often:
- Without enough support
- Without clear influence on decisions that affect them
- While navigating multiple systems at once.
This network provides a space for connection, learning and influence.
Who is it for?
We’re looking for young people (18–28) who:
Young people involved in or connected to place-based work and practice – formally or informally.
How it works
- Regular online sessions and hubs to stay connected, including to other PLACE networks
- Space for reflection, sharing and learning
- Opportunities to be more involved over time
Participation is flexible and shaped around your capacity.
What you can expect
We will:
- Respect your time, experience and knowledge
- Create a safe and supportive space
- Be clear about how we make decisions and share what comes up in the network
- Offer support if there are barriers to participation.
How to join
We’re starting with:
- Invitations to place-based initiatives across Australia
- A request for a short Expression of Interest (EOI) from anyone who wants to join
We’re inviting people to answer three questions:
- Who are you? Tell us your name or how you’d like to be known in our community
- Share a story about what brought you to place-based work? We would love to hear the experiences, people, or moments that led you to care about local action and community empowerment.
- Why do you want to be a part of this network? Share your hopes for connecting with fellow young leaders and how you see yourself shaping positive change together.
You can share your answers with us via a written submission, a short voice recording emailed to enable@placeaustralia.org, or you can make a time with us to have a chat by emailing enable@placeaustralia.org
When reviewing EOI’s, we will be making decisions guided by five key criteria:
- Geographic diversity
- Sector representation
- Identity
- Lived experience
- Cultural representation
This helps us:
- Keep the network at a size that ensures a meaningful experience for everyone
- Make sure there is a mix of diverse experiences and perspectives in the network.
EOIs will be open until July 30 2026.
