Earlier this year, PLACE published “Rethinking how we fund change: an invitation to consider collaborative commissioning”. Many of you engaged deeply with the piece and shared thoughtful reflections about what a different way forward could look like.

Through the 2025 PLACE Listening Tour, communities also highlighted how current funding settings limit long-term change. Short-term contracts, heavy compliance and siloed service systems continue to create pressure, reinforced by purchaser provider models that prioritise outputs over outcomes, compliance over trust and competition over collaboration.

On December 10, 2025 we continued this conversation in an upcoming webinar, where we explored the questions communities and practitioners are raising about collaborative commissioning.

The discussion explored whether collaborative commissioning can help or hinder:

– Building trust and including diverse voices
– Designing services around local needs
– Reducing duplication and simplifying funding
– Supporting small and community-led providers
– Strengthening governance and community capability
– Community capital building
